Start Your Creative Practice with What You Have Now

We’ve all heard it before: “One day, when I have more money…enough talent…the perfect product lineup…then I’ll start.”
Then I’ll be ready.
Then I’ll make it.

But here’s the truth: Perfection isn’t required to begin. Whether you have simple tools or limited resources, you can still build your dreams with what’s already in your hands. Maybe you want to start a woodworking shop, open a painting studio, or launch your own podcast. Whatever it is—start now.

If you have heart and passion, that alone will take you far. Couple it with action, and you become unstoppable. Will the road be smooth? Not always. Will there be detours? Absolutely. But those bumps don’t make you any less capable. And they certainly don’t make your dreams any less valid.

Here are a few reminders to keep you moving forward:

💼 Do Honest Work
You don’t need to leap from Point A to Point Z overnight. Just build the next step. Then the next. Honest work—done consistently—lays the foundation for sustainable growth. Whether you’re selling handmade goods or offering coaching services, integrity will always be your best business partner.

🔥 Keep Going
What keeps you motivated? Faith? Family? The vision of what you hope for yourself?

For me, it was the feeling that my art deserved space to exist. Not necessarily for others to see—though that happened too—but for the art itself to live outside of me. I wanted it to breathe. My faith kept me moving forward, listening to the quiet call placed in my heart to help others along their journey.

So ask yourself: What fuels your fire? Hold onto it.

🛠️ Use What You’ve Got
Take stock of your resources. Who do you know? What does your city or county offer—free classes, scholarships, grants? Start there. It may not feel like much, but people do more with less every day. And someone out there wishes they were already where you are.

Personally, I consumed every free program I could find online. And it made a difference.

🌸 Compete with No One
Your journey is yours. Learn and grow at your own pace. Keep blooming. Your season will come—and when it does, it’ll be worth the wait.

The path may feel long. At times, never-ending. But you’re strong. You’ve already overcome so much. Look back at your wins—big or small. They’re proof you can keep going.

Maybe you start small. That’s okay. There’s no perfect way to begin. The point is simply this: Start.
