In starting a new business, there’s a mountain of things to do. Whether you have little ones, are running a company, managing a team, or preparing for anything in life…you know life can be crazy and chaotic. And we have to try to find a way to manage it all, right? You know, I used to think that slowing down would be a waste of time, the very notion of, “I don’t have time to slow down!” Who was I fooling? Only myself. Living at that pace left little room to notice the good that was already around me.
I believe I’m someone who is grateful, but if I do a self-inventory check, I haven’t always expressed gratitude when life is “busy.” With deadlines, designs, product samples, and vendors, it’s easy to keep going, to overlook the pleasures in a day, to forget all that I already have. But gratitude isn’t something reserved for quiet seasons; it’s what steadies me in the busiest ones.
My faith. My husband. Food on the table. Those things keep me steady. They remind me that gratitude isn’t about ignoring hardship; it’s about noticing what still holds you.
The day offers treasures, even when life feels heavy. A breath that steadies me. A walk that reminds me I’m still moving. The warmth of sunlight streaming through the window. The sound of leaves brushing against each other in the wind. The laughter that sneaks in when I least expect it. Even the small rituals—morning tea, a favorite song, the quiet pause before sleep—become anchors when I choose to notice them.
Gratitude turns ordinary moments into extraordinary gifts. It shifts the lens from what’s missing to what’s present, from what’s undone to what’s already here. And when life feels overwhelming, those treasures remind me that chaos doesn’t erase beauty—it simply asks me to look harder for it.
And so, I ask you, friend…what treasures will you begin noticing with gratitude today? Let's create together, Stephanie Christley Founder & Owner of SLChristley Designs
